View Books Introduces the "driver task" as related to the highway transportation system and factors that influences performance ability. Prepares students so they may be eligible to take certification exams for driving school instructors in both public and private schools. Please check college catalog for Pre-Requisites.   Description: Foundations of Traffic Safety is the first of two courses required by the Virginia Department of Education teacher licensure to add an endorsement in driver education to the Virginia teaching license. Students are required to also complete the second course in order to become licensed. After successful completion of both courses, students will be required to pass a competency exam. In this course, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the highway transportation system, the complexity of the driving task, factors contributing to the performance of highway users, and attitudes and skills necessary to develop competent drivers. It will also provide pre-service teachers with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively deliver the course content as presented in the Administrative and Curriculum Guide for Driver Education in Virginia and the VADETS Online Driver Education Course. View Books Analyzes rules and regulations that govern the conduct of Driver Education programs with special emphasis on organization and administration. Includes uses in the classroom, driving range and on the street. Prepares students so they may be eligible to take the state certification exam in driver education. Emphasis will be placed on actual teaching skills including a minimum of 14 hours of actual behind-the-wheel, supervised teaching experience. This class meets from July 1,5,6,7,8 from 4:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturday, July 2 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The first class, meeting on Friday evening (6/3/2022) at 5:30pm, will present the course overview and introductory material. During the week prior to the Saturday skills class, all students will need to complete the online portion of the course which does not require you to be on campus. This compressed class focuses on the principles and techniques of safety, first aid, adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and AED. This class does not meet prerequisite requirements for nursing, practical nursing, radiation oncology or health professions.
